In your native tongue

It is a common fact that only a a small number of people around the world can understand and speak the English language. I am very proud to say that we are one of countries with the majority of English speaking people. In this case we hardly need subtitle translators when viewing films on Video or DVD films. There companies among them the Video Caption Corporation that offers subtitle service translators not just in English but in over 40 different languages. They provide subtitles for video or DVDs using the most sophisticated character generators and broadcast quality VTRs. If you want to avail of their other services, you can check out their website.

Malboxes filled with special thoughts

Thursday, December 27, 2007

With the computer technology on the rise, snail mails are no longer everyone’s cup of tea except for some who sticks it out with the traditional practice.
I’m so happy that our mailboxes are filled with Christmas holiday cards and mails from friends (and clients) not just abroad but from cities around the country. I guess they know that I’m still one typical old-fashioned lady when it comes to receiving greetings. Thank you so much for the thought.

My consolation

Wednesday, December 26, 2007

No! It’s not that I got my first honoraria this month (Php 2,617.00 or about $62.00) as Brgy. Chairman but I have some things to be honored and thankful for. I’m tickled pink when people I meet smiles and greets me - the pedi cab drivers and street kids who would call me “Vergara, Vergara” or “Madam”. Maybe those kids remembered my names through those campaign materials posted on the streets.

Politicos give special attention to the Chairman like dinner invitations, etc. Well let me take this chance to thank them for the following Christmas gifts:

A cavan of rice from Mayor Lim, Brgy. Bureau and the Liga ng Mga Barangay (Kanino ba talaga galling?);

A box of noodles and ham from Vice Mayor Isko Moreno;

Another box of ham and wine from Chairman Philip Lacuna;

A canvass traveling portfolio from Councilor Ernie and daughter Beth Rivera;

A baton from Chairman Digna Castaneda:

A table alarm clock from Councilor Dennis Lacuna and

Another ham from Congressman Abante plus this one

I love pens!

Aside from refrigerator magnets, and wallets, pens are among the things I love to collect. Whenever I travel, I see to it that I buy souvenir pens with the name inscribed in them of every city or country where I have been to. I already have a number of them pens framed. Not just for collection, I really love to buy an assortment of pens when I go to bookstores because they really catch my fancy.

Time Out! (?)

Sunday, December 23, 2007

Well at least I had some time off from barangay hectic duties although I would say not totally off because I can no longer do away with it, hehehe sounds confusing.

I had my diamond peel and enroled in a 10 session package plus last minute shopping for a few gifts for my staff and friends.

BTW, I appreciate my mom-in-laws generous gifts for almost all the families in my Barangay (but I labeled them "from Vergara Family" siempre naman!) consisting of 2 kilos rice, canned goods, noodles, etc. some were given thermoses and plastic plates.

Get lost no more!

I’m no good at directions. I always get lost even though I have been a couple of times from places I go. I think I badly need a GPS. Confusing and hard to read paper maps and map quest doesn’t help much tracking down locations. Its good enough I found a site where I can choose from a reliable selection of Portable GPS units from popular GPS brands like Garmin, Magellan and TomTom.

So, save time and gas locating places. Get yourself a Portable GPS unit too.

year end de-clogging

There was a remaining fund alloted for de-clogging and a staff of the Brgy. Bureau came early this morning for an on the spot inspection before it will be finally paid maybe in two weeks time. Your's truly, the Chairman was out for security services bidding for our company. Anyways, the task was overseered by the Chairman of the Clean and Green Committee and his Vice- Kagawads Jesi Bautista and Boy Rivera.

Climb up with ease

How I wished I have found this site years ago when my mom was still alive. In the few years of her being a diabetic with complications on the side, she had a hard time going up and down the stairs so she would be carried while on a wheel chair to her room in the second floor. It would have been easier and convenient for all of us if she had a stair lift.

I'm not a politico, do I need to?

Monday, December 17, 2007

When I decided to vie for the Chairmanship seat a month before the campaign period, my only desire was to give our neighborhood a "complete face-lift" ( vanidosa's term for beautiful, joyous and peaceful place). Isn't it nice to belong to a community of closely knit and cooperative people living in a clean and harmonious place? Never did I realize that my willingness and dedication to serve would not be appreciated by a few green-eyed monsters and critics who still have grudges being defeated during the last election. There is truth in the saying that "You cannot please everybody".

In the span of not even a month that I took oath and sat as the Punong Barangay, there came a time when I thought of giving up the crown because of pressures, stress, tiresome trips to this and those offices to submit documents for a smooth transistion, council meetings, paper works and even using up my personal money "katakut-takot na abono" to make sure our Barangay copes up to all the requirements not to mention the foul comments of the chismosas around. But then hubby and daughter advised me not to quit since the barangay is just half in number of our male employees whose operational needs I head and further told me that no matter what ddecision I'll come up with, I'm still the Chairman! Sorry sila!

Sad to say, I'm missing my usual activities, my friends, vanities and beautification (bwaaaah..), posting and updating my blog entries and campaign ads, visiting my links, and doing my pending tags. I haven't even shopped for Christmas presents yet.

.

HOW WILL I TAKE THIS?

One time after my appointed Treasurer and Secretary came from the National Treasury to fix some documents with regards to our Fidelity Bond told me "Madam, may trademark ka na! One lady Chairman who was also working on their bond asked who our Chairman is and we told her si Chairman Vergara po yung pumalit kay Chairman Beltran. Sabi ba naman, ah yung magandang, suplada na maputi? Siempre protect and defend po namin kayo and told her di naman po yun suplada."

You see how people can pass judgement? Grabe! Buti nalang may consolation ako hearing the words maganda and maputi! Bwaaaaaaahhhhh......again!

Beds for our pets

Thursday, December 6, 2007

I never had the slightest idea that I will ever allow any family member to take care of a dog nor to guard and protect our home much more keep them as pet. When I was in high school, I remember how I hated my mom’s spoiled toy terrier named Cherry. Yes, I think we had four - two mini breeds and two big ones. If there is one thing I don’t like about dogs is their stingy odor and the irritating sound of their barking. But things may change and happen in the course of time. Your guess is right because in the span of two years since we started from caring for two of our originals, a pug and a dachshund, we now have a total of five cute and lovable doggies we consider as part of the family.

Each of them has a special trait I just love. Our dachshund Totoy was trained by my daughter’s Nanny Aida to sleep in a special bed solely for his use. That made me think of doing the same by training our two other younger puppies to sleep in specially designed pet beds. There are dog beds made of quality materials to last long, completely washable and protected against absorbing odors at affordable price. If you are searching for pet beds for your dogs, please check out this site.

America, the Concert

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

America, the legendary pop act behind the classic hits *a Horse With No Name*, *Ventura Highway,* *Tin Man*, *All My Life* and *You Can Do Magic,* among many other hits, has remained quite active during the past three decades as singers, songwriters and concert performer

Now in the midst of its fourth decade of successful music-making, America invaded the local concert in a major show on Dec. 4 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Hubby and I were looking forward to this concert billed as *All My Life* Philippine Tour,” the musical presentation at Araneta Coliseum. We were there promptly at 8:00 p.m. but it actually started at 9:30 p.m. after a front act by RJ Jacinto, Nyoy Volante and sorry I forgot the other one. I really enjoyed reminiscing my high school days singing one of their hits *Sandman* when we competed for an inter-school Songfest where we won first place held in San Beda College.

I was awed seeing Bongbong Marcos seated in the front row singing and dancing in his seat while watching.The crowd was stunned when *All My Life*, and *A Horse with No Name* were sung. Hmmmm.... those were my days!

28th and still going strong!!!

Monday, December 3, 2007

The week-end was so busy with personal and barangay duties so it's only now that I got the chance to post this belated wedding anniversary treat last Saturday, December 1st. Here are a few photos taken at cool and breezy Tagaytay. We had lunch at Leslie's overlooking Taal Lake with the whole family and three of our angels, the kids went horseback riding at the Viewsite, passed by Sta. Rosa to visit Rey's cousins, passed by Starbucks and met other family members (Rey's side) at Glorietta for dinner and watched a nephew's (Ryan) photo exhibit for Mac.

For a clean and odor free air

With the hazards of air pollution that causes much damage in the environment, pure and clear air is a necessity especially around my family circle. My husband has asthma and so with our two grandkids. Allergy and asthma sufferers like them can get relief from air purifiers specially those with a quality HEPA filter. I guess it’s use will also be very beneficial for pet lovers like us. We actually have five lovable dogs and a talking birdie that we cannot afford to dispatch.

I’m glad to know of this website with air purifier reviews. They offer a wide selection of ionizers, air filters, air purifiers and odor eliminators for your any area of your home, your room and even for your car. Best of all you can compare prices and rankings of these different items and can read about reviews and recommendations of satisfied customers who have tried and tested the products they had purchased. You can also join an online conversation, post a comment, ask a question and offer some tips about any of the products they offer.

You can check out this website and see for yourselves the benefits that each products can offer according to your air purifying needs.
