Proud to be a Filipino
Tuesday, May 29, 2007
Did you know that we have three (3) Filipina Candidates in the recent Miss Universe 2007 Beauty Pageant held in Mexico and another on the centerstage - Vanessa Minillo the co-host who was former Miss Teen USA? I’m referring to our bet Anna Theresa Licaros who won the Ms. Photogenic Award. Actually this is our 3rd since 2005. That made us bagged the title 3 years in a row, Miss Norway Kirby Ann Basken and Miss Germany Angelina Glass, born of a German mother and Filipino father.

Santacruzan 2007
Sunday, May 27, 2007
A Santacruzan is a religious-historical beauty pagent held in many cities, towns and even small villages throughout the Philippines during the month of May. One of the most colorful May-time festivals in the Philippines which depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. Many movie and television personalities participate in the events and are featured as major sagalas and escorts. (http://www.intas-travel.com/incentives/fiesta_floresdemayo.html)
The festivity commemorates the search of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena (Reyna Elena) and her son, the newly converted emperor Constantine. After the Holy Cross was found in Jerusalem and brought back to Rome, there was a joyful celebration for thanksgiving.
This festival was introduced by the Spaniards in the Philippines and has since become part of Filipino traditions identified with youth, love and romance.

My daughter Queenie and grandkids Kisses and Keren where invited to grace the neighborhood’s Barangay Youth Santacruzan. Since I’m no Catholic I was no longer keen on the idea except long ago when my eldest Rhea was a frequent starrer. Realizing that it’s just a waste of money and time, I thought of backing out but my girls were insistent to join. I asked of course what would be Queenie’s role? They told me she will be the Reyna Elena for the kids to the dalagindings (early teens) and there will be another Reyna Elena for the much older teeners. Not bad but then again I don’t want to buy one expensive gown. So ola! She wore her “Ate”(elder sister) Rhea’s wedding gown, attached a plastic hoola hoop underneath to form a balloon like effect on the skirt. Well as a mom, who would not want her daughter to shine knowing I finally committed to the idea. So there, I brought her to my longtime make-up artist and hairstylist Mon of Hairasia, fixed her "arko", etc. Hmmmmm..... *gumastos din*! (no way not to spend!)

Names and their Meanings
Monday, May 21, 2007
Cuz Girlie tagged me on the meaning of my daughters' names.
I haven't seriously thought of of a name for my children to be till a few months before I gave birth to my eldest. I have a few choices then. I love the names Brigitte Marie or Michael Ray. But since my name is Marina (derived from marine or water) and my husband is Reynaldo (Rey means king, I don't know the naldo), I thought of combining our names.
Rhea Marie - Rhea should have been Reya Marie but it was misspelled maybe by a stupid
hospital staff.
Reyna Bianca - Bianca means "white" but she turned out "morena" or brown, hehe. Had I
known, I should have named her Reyna Morena... hehe again!

7 Random Things
I was tagged by cuz girlie to share 7 random things about me.
1. I ‘m a certified Beauty Salon addict. I have my regular monthly root dye, countless blow drying sessions depending on my scheduled client meetings, manicure/pedicure sometimes inclusive of foot scrub. The latter is done on a home service if my manicurist is available. I also go for eyelash extension and facials at the Vicky Belo's IF I got some extra moolah.
2. If my laziness strikes, I can stay in bed the whole day.
3. I hate clutters! I fix and tidy up our room before going to bed.
4. I had my tomato-like nose trimmed in 1983 and had undergone Botox last year which didn’t last for 6 months as stated. I’m planning to have a restylane/perlane injected on the visible folds from the sides of my nose down to the corners of my mouth.
5. I wear size 1 jeans, 35-36 (4 1/2- 5) shoes, maintains wearing small to medium size shirts or dresses otherwise I will be very unhappy wearing an “L”.
6. I had a mild skin disorder when I was younger and was so sensitive to heat from the spritz of the burning cooking oil when frying so my mom didn’t encourage me to learn how to cook but my sister taught me how to make chiffon and banana cakes.
7. I’m scared of airplane turbulence and eartquakes

it's nice to remember
It was 32 years ago when she said "yes" to this 15 year old boy then. They had a baby girl after 3 years and finally got married in civil rites in the same year and a church wedding followed a year after. After years of ups and downs they were blessed with another baby girl and hopefully still going strong in HIS Guidance.
Feeling Good
Friday, May 18, 2007
Feeling much better and much much better after watching this "feel good movie" Music and Lyrics on DVD last. Though I may sound far way behind because I think this was shown about 3 months ago this is a highly recommended film for those hopelessly romantics who haven't seen it yet.
It's the last day of my youngest Queenie's summer classes at OBMC Greenhills and she requested me to pick her up. I decided to take along my two grandkids Kisses (now she wanted to be called Nadine, her real name is Reynaldine Kezia) and Keren since Queenie's school is just a distance away from Greenhill's Shopping area. We had lunch and of course a bit of shopping for some stuffs and yes! for make-ups again and again. Even 7 year old Keren bought her own curl lash and lip gloss. I told her not to buy a mascara coz' I'm giving her one of my extras. As soon as we reached home she told me she forgot to buy the eyeshadow. Hahaha!
Hubby, and Job followed after picking up my eldest Rhea from her Med review class. We had dinner and we all decided to watch Shrek 3. On our way home we passed by Del's at Wilson where hubby bought some foodstuffs while I was left in the car checking on the items I bought. Here's the sad part, I left some items I bought...... a shirt and 3 undies of Queenie and I don't know where.
Anyways, here's what hubby got for me. A 1.1 kilo of a giant "atis" so sweet and juicy.

Happy Mother's day to All
Monday, May 14, 2007
Kinda busy the past few days tending to hubby's health, taking care of his meds, checks ups and diet due to his diabetes his creatine, cholesterol, tryglicedrides are somehow shooting up. But the past 5 days his blood sugar is starting to normalize. We often eat out for noodles and Japanese dishes low in fats. I myself is also having fights with my allergic rhinitis attacks after the town fiesta last Friday, May 12 due to late night sleepless nights, heat and all.
Quite late but just the same Happy Belated Mother's Day to All. With Queenie and Kisses Rey treated us for a Japanese dinner at the Power Plant. The above paper plant was made out of "bunso" Queenie's creative and artistic talent.

My first at Serendra
Tuesday, May 8, 2007
"Serendra" - I've been hearing about this from bestfriend Lynne and daughter Rhea. It's located at The Fort, Bonifacio Global City which offers a wide array of shops, restaurants, pastry and coffee shops as well. We celebrated Rhea's birthday (May 6) with a family dinner at Abe's (an all Filipino Restaurant) some cosmetics at The Face Shop and novelty shopping as well, with Rhea's cousins, Jacky, Camille, Ryan and Robin all kids of Rey's younger brother Roland. I would love to buy more jibbitz for our crocs but unexpetedly the shop was too crowded, maybe next time.

The heat is on
Monday, May 7, 2007
I had so many things to write about last week that had piled up in my coconut shell but my lazy mood and lazy fingers had prevented. Here's a recap of how the past week went.
The Heat is On, the heat is o on ohwowowoh ohwowowoh......
I had been preoccupied with the construction of a partition/divider of our 3rd floor extended living area and supervising the cleaning up everyday just when the workers leave at 5pm for 5 consecutive days. The idea came in when I went up one afternoon which I seldom do because I usually go up during the night to watch movies on DVDs or play majong. Suddenly I felt the terrible heat rushed all over me and caused severe stomach pains. I've heard about stomach pains caused by intense heat but I didn't believe till I experienced it myself. Since we bought an aircon unit for Queenie's room I thought of dividing the living area and install an exhaust fan towards the closed area now designed as our AVR at least to minimize the heat and instead of buying another aircon unit. 2 lower pictures shows the window opposite the AVR where the heat generates from.
I have been spearheading our surveillance team on this special operations which started last Saturday on a case of bank fraud. Athough I'm not directly involved with the Operations itself I monitor them (the Agents assigned) keeping me posted on what's happening. As of Wednesday, results have turned out positive almost identifiying the fraudster to the delight of the client. But sad to say that when the actual tracking down (arrest after coordination with the NBI scheduled the following day), there was no trace of the suspect. Oh well, operation will resume Monday, the 7th. I hope efforts will not go to waste.

I started out a less rice, vegetable and fruit diet coz I've noticed bulges around my mid area where extra pounds go with the ageing process (aray ko!) ouch! Honestly, hubby and I have been indulging the past couple of months since we transferred our smaller ref from the 3rd floor down to our room, stocking ice cream, chocolates, canned fruits, salads, not to mention dishes like kare-kare, lengua, ginisang monggo, etc. etc. So there! bulges for me and elevated blood test results for his sugar, cholesterol, tryglicerides, uric acid and creatine. Now, we're both paying the price-Diet and exercise (will come next).
We were at the family pool last Saturday at Pansol, Calamba, Laguna with hubby's friends and their families. The kids had fun but not me. Why? with all the alimasag, hipon, salad how would I be happy? Ang hirap kaya ng dieta!
