An annual event I never would miss!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

It’s always an annual event me and my friends watch. I’m talking here of Megastar Sharon Cuneta’s Birthday Concert which is held at the Araneta Coliseum. If I’m not mistaken, this year is my 5th year in a row. Thanks to my friend Edna whose daughter Ginger is married to Sharon’s elder brother. We are always seated in the front row with big name celebrities around, such an honor notwithstanding the banging of speakers causing our hearts to pound with excitement and joy. Here is a slideshow of some photos taken last 1-11-11.

Santacruzan

A Santacruzan is a religious-historical beauty pagent held in many cities, towns and even small villages throughout the Philippines during the month of May. One of the most colorful May-time festivals in the Philippines which depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. Many movie and television personalities participate in the events and are featured as major sagalas and escorts. (http://www.intas-travel.com/incentives/fiesta_floresdemayo.html)

The festivity commemorates the search of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena (Reyna Elena) and her son, the newly converted emperor Constantine. After the Holy Cross was found in Jerusalem and brought back to Rome, there was a joyful celebration for thanksgiving.

This festival was introduced by the Spaniards in the Philippines and has since become part of Filipino traditions identified with youth, love and romance.

My daughter Queenie and grandkids Kisses and Keren where invited to grace the neighborhood’s Barangay Youth Santacruzan. Since I’m no Catholic I was no longer keen on the idea except long ago when my eldest Rhea was a frequent starrer. Realizing that it’s just a waste of money and time, I thought of backing out but my girls were insistent to join. I asked of course what would be Queenie’s role? They told me she will be the Reyna Elena for the kids to the dalagindings (early teens) and there will be another Reyna Elena for the much older teeners. Not bad but then again I don’t want to buy one expensive gown. So ola! She wore her “Ate”(elder sister) Rhea’s wedding gown, attached a plastic hoola hoop underneath to form a balloon like effect on the skirt. Well as a mom, who would not want her daughter to shine knowing I finally committed to the idea. So there, I brought her to my longtime make-up artist and hairstylist Mon of Hairasia, fixed her "arko", etc. Hmmmmm..... *gumastos din*! (no way not to spend!)

We were there!

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Cuz Girlie and I were very happy to represent Francesca to the Philippine Blog Awards. Honestly, I had second thoughts until cuz responded to my request to come with me. Who would fail a fellow blogger turned friend anyway? Though she didn*t make it, we were still in high spirits specially when her blogsite/template (also that of Beng*s were constantly flashed in the centerstage of the wide screen of the auditorium. We both felt real winners too. We didn*t get home empty handed because aside from the loots, our ticket no. 160 won a 500.00 peso worth of gift certificates from one of the sponsors, Krispy Kreme. Wahoo!
