It is strategically located along the National Highway, few steps to the Municipal Hall and the Catholic Church in Il Sur, San Juan, La Union. Farther across is a resort and a surfing site. It is also located near the small public market. The house with a big lawn has five rooms, 2 at the first level and 3 upstairs.

Holy week-end trip (April 6-9, 2012)




We had such an enjoyable week-end vacation up north though it was only on Holy Tuesday that we got to finalize where exactly to go. Thanks to Joey, my daughter Rhea’s classmate in Med School who offered their home in San Juan, La Union. The 6-hour (including stops for pees and eats) road trip was comfortable riding in a borrowed van courtesy of a friend while the rest rode in our SUV in convoy. There were no boring times because each of us brought along our gadgets. Rhea and I watched separately on our portable dvd player, Kisses with her laptop and Keren with her apple ipod nano. Even our helpers played games in their cellphones.

We left at 9:00 a.m. of Good Friday and while passing by some towns in Tarlac, we saw devotees performed extreme acts of penitence to atone for their sins. Their religious ritual involves performance of self-flagellation acts like carrying heavy wooden crosses, whipping their backs until they bleed, believing that their sacrifice would somehow grant salvation for their sins.The ritual involves believers marching for several hours under the scorching heat of the sun with their arms and legs tied while they were inflicted wounds on their backs with a blade and sometimes even have themselves nailed to crosses as expressions of penance.

This was an unplanned trip. I was not scheduled to join this trip until barely two (2) days before the said trip my mother-in-law requested me to chaperon my youngest brother-in-law and family with another niece since they were all first timers in this City. She was also worried that another government revolt may take place as in the previous months when many tourists were stranded in the airport because of canceled flights. One more reason is that I have a friend whose family is based there and if anything happens we can stay with them for a while safely. Yes, she's that overprotective with her sons. She would have canceled the trip notwithstanding how much she paid for their tickets. I didn't had the guts to refuse her even though I know how toxic it would be. Imagine flying back and forth on scheduled midnight and dawn flights and just staying for only 2 days? Only 1 day tour and 1 day shopping, oh how hectic!

A visit to our departed loved ones

We went to pay visit to my father-in-law today at the Manila Memorial Park Paranaque. We don*t normally go on November Ist to avoid the busy crowd and the traffic but unexpectedly (?) it was still traffic but I guess far more better than yesterday. Then, we headed to the wake of hubby*s first cousin Maritess a City Councilor of Sta. Rosa whose husband (Raul) an ex 3 time Councilor was ambushed last Sunday. He was the third (Mayor Arcillias, Councilor Gomez and Raul) in a span of 3 years.

All Soul's Day

For the annual All Soul*s Day Holiday, our caretaker has set up everything for tomorrow*s very early family visit to my father-in-law*s graveyard. Flowers and candles have been prepared and a canvas tent has been mounted to give ample shade from the sunny heat or unexpected rain showers. It is good that my mother-in-law has invested on the best kind, durable and sturdy that would last for a very long time. So, I need to sign-off now for an early visit to the cemetery tomorrow. Ciao guys!

August 23, Thursday
Our youngest grandkid Keren turned 8 today and I'm proud to tell you that she's already in Grade 4 at O.B. Montessori Center. After her preparatory year in a nearby Methodist School we decided to transfer her in a Baptist International School in Makati for Kindergarten but since she got a high mark in the entrance exams we decided to enroll her as First Grade much to the discouragement of the Administration because she was only about 4 that time. Anyways she coped up even landing in the top 10 of her class. Towards the end of her 2nd Grade we applied her at O.B. Montessori wanting much to transfer her and elder sister Nadine because it's a lot nearer to our home but she wasn't accepted and they want to demote her if we insist to enroll her. No way! We transferred them in a Catholic School nearby, my Alma Mater and on her 1st day of school as Grade 3, her classmates bullied her and tells her to go down to the Grade I classroom because it's where she belongs. Well then, she finished Grade 3 on above average rating. On our second attempt, O.B. Montessori finally accepted as Grade 4 because again she got a high score in the entrance exams. So there she is. Her teachers call her "baby".

Despite hubby's warning not to proceed to the salon because surely the roads were flooded on the way where Queenie & I had a scheduled appointment for hair and make, we were still very insistent notwithstanding the heavy downpour of rain due to typhoon Egay. Good thing it wasn't so.

August 17, 20007, Friday.
It was a priviledge having joined the Villarica Family in a joyous family affair - the celebration of the 90th birthday of Cuz Girlie's father in-law at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula Hotel. The party was fun - food was great and and the program was well organized. I loved the music rendered by Bernie Pasamba and his Orchestra plus Pinoy Pop Superstar winners, Gerald Santos and Aichelle (not sure of the spelling) Santos and of course the Surprise Belly Number of Cuz Girlie, Isha with teacher Gladys and belly classmate Rica. I enjoyed the Chinese Dragon Dance Number too. There were also games with cash prizes doled out and oh! not just cash but jewelries were also given to lucky winners! I just wasn't lucky that night, sayang!

My lovely cuz looked so gorgeous in her gown that night, so bad we have no photos taken as she was so busy table hopping and entertaining guests.

Our BEST wishes to Mr. Quirino C. Villarica. May you live to be a hundred and more!
