She's now a registered voter

Friday, August 27, 2010

The period for filing applications for registration, transfer of registration, change of name, correction of entries, reactivation of deactivated registration record for 25 October 2010 Barangay and SK Elections already ended last 13 and 15 August 2010.

I accompanied my 17 year-old Reyna Bianca (Queenie) to register and have her exercise her right to vote in the SK Election in case it pushes through this October 25th 2010. It took us almost an hour lining up - from getting the form and having them check the requirements (Birth certificate and School I.D.) of the applicants, filling up the form and getting a number to line up for the final check and verification before a stub certifying the completion of the registration.

The Latest On Barangay & SK Elections

Aquino wants barangay, SK polls in October, but....

President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III wants the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to push through in October despite several proposals to abolish or postpone it, Malacañang said Wednesday.

"The preference of the President is for the barangay elections to go through in October. The reason behind this is we'd like to synchronize the elections in 2013," presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda told Palace reporters.

However, Aquino wants the SK — which is composed of one chairman and seven councilors — to be restructured to have just one representative, Lacierda said, adding that Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo has drafted a bill calling for such setup.

Likewise, Robredo's bill pushes for barangay and SK officials' three-year terms to be cut short by five months so the elections of these officials will be synchronized with the mid-term national and local elections in May 2013.

The bill will be filed by Aquino's allies in Congress and will be prioritized to ensure that it will be passed before the barangay and SK elections on October 25, Lacierda said.

"The whole idea here is to save costs," said Lacierda, adding that the government can save at least P800 million if the 2013 barangay elections were held simultaneously with the election of senators and local officials in May 2013.

Unnecessary expenses?

Malacañang issued the statement after Vice President Jejomar Binay said barangay and SK elections should be abolished because they add unnecessary expenses for the government.

Proposals to postpone the polls are currently pending in Congress. At the Senate, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri filed Senate Bill No. 60 which seeks to move the October 2010 elections to October 2012.

In the House of Representatives, House Minority Leader and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman filed a bill that would move the said elections to 2012, saying the postponement will save a lot of money that can be spent on priority government projects.

But the Commission on Elections is urging Congress not to pass proposals to abolish the said elections, taking into consideration the high turnout during the first day of registration for the barangay and SK.

"We urge members of Congress to visit Comelec registration centers in their respective districts so that they can have a feel of what their constituents really want regarding the upcoming polls," said Comelec spokesman James Jimenez.

The registration period for the barangay polls began on August 4 and will end on August 13. The list-up for the SK elections, meanwhile, began on August 6 and will last until August 15. — RSJ/KBK, GMANews.TV

The best eczema cure

Friday, August 13, 2010

Eczema is not just an ordinary skin problem. Also known as atopic dermatitis, its cause is not exactly known. Though not contagious, it is believed to be at least partially inherited and recurring. I’ve seen the dilemma of two of my husband’s cousins afflicted with the disease. They both have nice and flawless skin until such time they had this skin problem. Their underlying question is what is the best eczema treatment? Probably the next thing I can do is refer eczema.com and let them find out for themselves.

Barangay 2010 Election postponed?

So much speculation whether the scheduled Barangay and SK Elections on October 25, 2010 will be postponed or will push through. I’ve recently observed and realized some people’s eagerness for power despite previous records of inefficiency and corruption. I have sensed the coldness and disinterest of a few whom I considered compatriots when talks about the October 25th election came brighter for them who are also aspiring for my position. This is another concrete example of how dirty politics is coupled with hypocrisy, backbiting and deceit. Others enter the so called public service thing for personal interest alone. Well then if Election pushes through, I hope people will use their sensible minds to choose community officials who have the genuine motive to serve the interest of the public.

Saturday, August 7, 2010

I’m glad I finally got the free theater tickets from my Godson Chuck Cuneta to the Concert of my favorite Ms. Sharon Cuneta at the Big Dome (the Araneta Coliseum tomorrow entitled the “Megadrama”. Although my usual companions to watching Concerts are out of the country, my cousin Girlie and my sister Cora will be coming along. One thing that excites me is that another favorite, the beautiful and sultry Diva Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla will be one of her guests. I wonder if Gabby Concepcion is coming if so, my night will be complete! If ever my U.S. trip will push through next year, I'll have the big chance to see famous Concerts and plays at the different States with my bestfriend there.
