The reasons behind my candidacy

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Before I made this decision, I consulted my mother-in-law first (having in mind the finances, haha) if she*s willing to support me and without adieu she gave her big “yes” and further said that even without me running she helps and supports the barangay in all their requests which is very true. If they need uniforms, coffee, rice etc. for the barangay tanods they ran to the *Vergara*s* and ask knowing very well that they suppose to have funds. Same with my husband, he*s some kind of a Social Welfare Admn doling out financial assistance to less fortunate members around for different needs *hingi, minsan utang walang bayad*.

Here are some funny side comments from husband Rey and daughter Rhea:

*What if there are troubles that may come up if you win the seat?* asked Rey. Rhea answered with action tiptoeing and sexily running saying *here comes the chairman in havaianas, fully made-up and in a fashionable attire*, or one may answer *oh the chairman is nowhere maybe chilling out with friends at Rockwell or shopping in Greenhills* or *sorry, she*s in Hongkong or in Singapore shopping*. See how stupid these two are.

My Leadership Background

Dating back from my early school days, I remembered I am not the intellectual type but I can proudly say that I can rate myself as an above average student who consistently stays in the A or the first section. I am the *makapal ang mukha, leader leaderan* type who always joins extra curricular activities from elementary to college be it in dancing, singing, sports, scouting, CAT, Catechism (I*m not Catholic remember? but the sisters didn*t know), name it and you*ll find me there. Sometimes I ask myself if I am the *papansin type* of person. Definitely not because as a little girl I was showered with full love and attention by my parents and the whole family as well because I*m the baby, materially spoiled and vain since childhood (thanks to my mom, hehe) those blessings didn*t get into my head in fact I*m so thankful. Though most people gets intimidated by my fierce looking face, tactless and blunt words I utter at times but believe me I don*t hide ill feelings in my heart that*s why I*m very vocal. I can be very nice even to strangers but can also easily turn my back if I feel you*re not worthy of my attention and time BUT I can be a loving and loyal friend you can count on.

My exposure in the field of Security Operations dominantly comprising the male group which I head contributed more to my leadership skills combined with my desire for beauty, glamour and community service made me decide to run. I observed that the community we live in has never been active, no projects and fun activities during special occasions and I had been hearing feedbacks that the incumbent leader (need not elaborate, bad eh) is so passive in terms of supposed to be services to offer this small barangay of ours.

I*m not sour grapping this early but I*m just telling the fact that if I don*t win, it*s not my loss because they will lose somebody who will dedicate and give in the best she can. I know this will be a tough job which may deprive me of some of my vanities in life. Agree?

I*ll be posting my program or manifesto (plataporma) in my next entry and some anecdotes, comments and stories behind this arena I entered into.
